I had a friend ask recently what ambient music is. I provided a vague definition and a couple of examples.
Sun boxes are, I feel, the epitome of ambient music — it is music that you can listen to, ignore, becomes part of it’s surroundings, enhances the experience of the place, disappears into the place. Ambient music is made to be listened to, and ignored, at the same time.
Sun boxes are solar-powered speakers in a continuous loop that respond to the varying solar and weather pattern in their installation. They are completely independent of each other, repeating their own loops of eery notes.
Sun boxes is a kickstarter project to place the installations in various state parks in Vermont.
Sun boxes on bandcamp: you can buy two of the tracks recorded of the Sun Boxes.
