Medical Consumer Site under attack by an accused Lab

Over on Quackwatch, they try to help consumers make rational and informed choices about their healthcare. Occasionally, they point out fraudsters and less than scrupulous practices and practitioners.

One such accused company, and medical lab, has decided to sue Quackwatch: Why Doctor’s Data Is Trying to Shut Me Up. This is a completely frivolous law suit, entirely meant to intimidate. From the correspondence shown, the lab in question is unable or unwilling to make a statement about what it considers to be harmful in Quackwatch’s articles. This is common in speech-stifling lawsuits. Doctor’s Data doesn’t like what is said about it, but can’t come up with any specifics which are inaccurate or match their contention of fraud and malice. And of course, this sort of lawsuit results in a case of Streisand Effect, whereby all Doctor’s Data is doing is drawing attention to it’s negative publicity. This lawsuit got mention on Pharyngula, which is PZ Myers’ widely-read blog whose audience is a rabid community of skeptics. This can’t possibly do Doctor’s Data any good.

As for what’s true or not, I can’t say, I’m not a medical doctor or a medical researcher, nor am I a lawyer. Go to the Quackwatch post above and see for yourself what’s out there.
